As generally known, the traditional intelligence agency collects information and subsists on secretive inner circles. Agencies such as the CIA and BND are both anonymous and identifiable to the public. How does an intelligence agency from the art world move beyond the exclusive networks of art and intellectual practice to have real political effect? What creative and cunning strategies for activism could it offer in the age of surveillance? In bringing together activists and specialists invested in forms of intelligence, DISCREET’s third insecurity counseling will attempt to address the dichotomy between public engagement and the necessary insularity of intelligence work.

Counsellors: Jérémie Zimmermann (hacker and activist, cofounder of La Quadrature du Net, a citizen advocacy group defending fundamental freedoms online and more recently a multidisciplinary collective called Hacking with Care), Wes Said (activist, researcher on Cybernetics providing communities with technical knowledge necessary to evade a police state, opera singer)
